Artist
I was born in New York to an Icelandic mother and a Russian father, and grew up in Iceland and Switzerland.
Now I am a father myself, of two boys, and divide my time between recording (for paladino, Orlando, Sheva Collection, Brilliant Classics, VDE Gallo, DUX, ABC Classics), performing all over the world, giving masterclasses and coaching at various academies, and caring for my children at home in Basel, where they go to school. In recent years, I have expanded my activity to include the principal clarinet position with the chamber orchestra "Festival Strings Lucerne" and a leading function at the "Zentrum für Musik Solotutti" in Solothurn, Switzerland. I am a profound believer in music's potential as a force for good in our world, and that now more than ever we need music, the humanities, the arts, literature, creativity and creative and integrative thinking, and, overall, things that bring people together. I see my role therein as primarily that of a communicator and guide, and hope to show people the beauties of musical journeys and how they are relevant to our experience as humans.
