Who’s Afraid of Bela Bartok?
The Brodsky Quartet offers an illuminating guide to Bartok’s 6th quartet, written on the eve of WW2
Set in a secluded valley near the Camel river, Lavethan (pronounced La-ve-than) is an ancient Cornish manor house steeped in history and surrounded by majestic trees and extensive gardens. Lavethan stands on 30 acres of land including the Grade II* listed manor house with two courtyards, adjacent buildings, formal gardens, woodland and pasture leading down to the lively Waterloo river. The house is an architectural historian’s dream, and also a comfortable and welcoming home. Since 2016, current owners Simon and Krysia have converted the long stone barn into a beautiful performance space. They are also restoring the long-abandoned Victorian water garden. which includes a medieval Holy Well, a grotto, a wildlife pond, winding paths and abundant flora and fauna.
