Artist
Will Coleman describes himself as a ‘cultural entrepreneur’ – an educational consultant and Cornish speaker, an academic, director, film maker, performer, author and musician.
He is the Artistic Director of Golden Tree Productions - creating highest-quality cultural product that celebrates the distinctiveness and diversity of Cornwall. Kerdroya, the Cornish Landscape Labyrinth has now been completed and stands as a living monument to Cornwall’s craftsmanship and cultural heritage. 56 metres wide, it is built entirely from traditional Cornish hedging, a geographically unique craft that provides a haven for wildlife, flora and fauna. Kerdroya showcases twelve regional styles of Cornish hedging. The project has taken seven years to complete. Throughout its development, it has helped revitalise a traditional rural trade, supported skilled craftspeople, and introduced thousands of people to the geology, ecology, and cultural significance of Cornwall’s hedges, which act as vital wildlife corridors across the landscape. Will is also masterminding the ‘Go Cornish’ programme of Cornish Language delivery across thirty primary schools, with new initiatives for wider roll-out and for Nursery settings. However, Will is perhaps most well-known for creating the ‘Man Engine’; the 12m tall mechanical miner who steamed the length of the Cornish mining landscape in 2016. 150,000 people came out to greet the metal giant, rekindling the deep-rooted pride in mining heritage amongst Cornish people.
