Artist
Elizabeth Freeborn is a Cornish born singer-songwriter with a passion for re- enchanting the world through song and the magic of nature, with a particular focus on reviving the language of Kernewek (Cornish).
She integrates her study of Kernewek into original songs with a fresh new take on Cornish language, history and folklore. Elizabeth is a composer and singer with local band Wake the River, releasing 3 albums and playing at a number of prestigious venues around Cornwall including The Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. She has also performed as a solo artist at Glastonbury festival, the Minack Theatre and at various festivals across the country. In August 2024 Elizabeth released ‘Emerald’, a highly acclaimed album of 10 original songs. In March 2026 she travelled to Bodo in Norway to perform ‘Walking on Arctic Water’, collaborating with composer Daniel Woodfield to create a captivating blend of Cornish tunes, Cornish language and ethereal cinematic soundscapes. Elizabeth is currently singing the soprano vocal of ‘Arlodhes a Shalott’ a classical song cycle in Cornish by Matthew Thomason, which is touring all over Cornwall. Elizabeth continues to deepen her study of the Cornish language and is beginning work on a new album which aims to inspire others to use and engage with Kernewek. She is becoming a rising star of the Cornish music scene and one of the key pioneers of Kernewek's prevalence in the creative field.
