Artist
Dorothy is an artist working primarily in printmaking. The works I create develop from a quiet, meditative process where initial ideas evolve through layers of ink and the pressure of the press.
I explore the tension between deliberate control and the spontaneity of the medium,
inviting the unexpected results of the printing press to help shape the final imagery. By
building layers and responding to marks as they emerge, I seek to resolve compositions that
exist in the space between painting and printmaking. Ultimately, these abstract images look
to an inner world of complex feelings rather than words, bypassing the need for literal
understanding and hoping instead to evoke a visceral response at a deeper level from the
viewer.
I graduated from Belfast College of Art. I have exhibited widely, highlights include The Royal
Academy Summer Exhibition, The Royal West of England Academy, the International
Original Print Exhibition (prize winner 2018). My work is held in many private and public
collections in the UK and abroad.
